Identifying new sources of revenue in waste management for Hasirudala

Co-creating & strategizing new monetization opportunities identified by researching the waste ecosystem in Bangalore

context

Pensaar Design partnered with HasiruDala Innovations, to reimagine the waste business to identify new sources of revenue in waste management. Research helped us map the Bangalore waste journey and identify key players in the ecosystem. The identified gaps helped us design new business and monetization opportunities for HasiruDala.

PROCESS OVERVIEW

In collaboration with our partner, we conducted ethnographic research to map the Bangalore waste journey and identify key players in the ecosystem. Using insights from the research we co-created to identify opportunities. The tools we used were: Observation Skills, Open-ended questions, Biomimicry, Neue Kombinationen, Rapid Experimentation, Backcasting and Business model canvas.

OUTCOME

A co-creation session with stakeholders helped define a vision for the company before narrowing down on the key solutions to focus on. Experiments were designed keeping priority solutions in mind, that were then executed on the field to gauge which ones would work best.

The Visioning workshop helped define a clear vision and build new revenue models. The vision was to enable “Today’s waste pickers to become tomorrow’s circular economy practitioners”, thus empowering their transition from being physical workers to being knowledge workers.

Re-imagining wellness and dining experiences to promote holistic wellbeing

Conceptualising new spaces to promote wellbeing

Context

A not-for-profit with the primary mission of accelerating economic development in India and LatAm through large-scale initiatives was looking to reimagine their program to accelerate the growth of small businesses in high-value job-creating sectors. The current in-person solution needed to be reimagined as a self-service knowledge solution that could scale to 10’s of thousand small businesses globally.

Our Process

Pensaar Design started with the leadership team, helping them understand the need for all to be customer obsessed, identify the right problem to solve and have the rigour to constantly measure customer benefits. We then conducted deep qualitative research with small businesses across India and LatAm to create 3 different conceptual designs that we iterated based on small business feedback. The final solution was the detailed out and implemented with engineering.
